Westtown School in partnership with Princeton Hydro, an environmental consulting firm, harvesting of aquatic plants in Lake school August 11 and 12. A multi-purpose amphibious tractor known as a Truxor led the harvest, which is part of a larger initiative to Westtown to restore and maintain the lake without the use of pesticides and other chemicals the water.

Head of School, John Baird, said aquatic ecological harvesting is consistent with the Westtown ongoing commitment to the environment in both its curriculum and operational practices, pointing to the statement of the school mission sustainability calls to create a community that preserves and protects ecological systems. The Quaker testimony of land stewardship has been a core value at Westtown since its founding in 1799, and making sustainable land use a priority in recent years has led to reduced use of chemical fertilizers and weed control products grass on the lawns of the campus.Non-chemical management of the lake is very much a part of the sustainability initiative of the school wide. "Educating for Sustainability is a key element of our program," Baird said, "and if we expect students to act on what they learned by making sustainable choices in their own lives, then it is important to model what we teach in our institutional practices.

So yes, this message might seem strange in itself because it is about a truck.But when you come with me and watch all these moments spent together, you'll see, as I have done lately, it's more than just a truck. These are moments that a large number of Oscar is an integral part. I think what really hit home for me was when Shilpa mentioned last week how comfortable Oscar was getting into, and then again the other day how she hopes I still have my Oscar when Babies are born and that my babies can travel too.
