Schroon Lake school taking Trout in the Classroom to next level

Trout Unlimited is "Trout in the Classroom" program has taught thousands of students across the country a valuable lesson in biology as they watch young trout grow.

Schroon Lake school district a science class is to take the program to the next level, trying to teach children about the next stage of trout development.

Students in seventh through Schroon Lake 12 grade science classes will benefit from a plumbing skills of their teacher as they get to watch the trout in a mature man "sustainable aquatic ecosystem" at school.

Cookie teachers Barker and Matt Riddle has six rainbow trout that are hatched from eggs last year that will live in the aquarium of 300 liters for the 2011-12 school year.

It's different for trout in the standard class, where the trout are released into the wild during the first spring of their lives.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones) - The U.S. stock market gained on Monday, boosted by a surge in sales of existing homes and a weekend pledge by world finance officials that calmed fears of a currency war.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 45 points, or 0.4%, to 11178, extending three consecutive weeks of gains. Entering the final week of trading, the Dow is up 3.6% in October, supported by hopes that the Fed will take further measures to stimulate the economy at its meeting next week .

As the Dow pulled back to gain the highest triple point, some investors said the market may cool a bit after its inexorable rise since early September.

"The more it rises, it becomes increasingly difficult to sustain the upward momentum," said Randy Frederick, director of operations and derivatives at Charles Schwab. "The upside is still there, just maybe not as robust as it was in early September."

And industrial materials led the Dow on Monday, while the weak dollar boosted companies with more international exports. DuPont rose 1.9%, Alcoa rose 1.3% and 0.9% Caterpillar added.
