Young entrepreneurs in the region to seize opportunities for recovery

August 21, 2011 (The Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) - If this is not the recession, the world may not have the battery go! iPhone, and one of its developers could still be tending bar at Don Pablo in Hobart.

"We actually started to do business because of the recession," said co-founder 9magnets Michael Phelps, one recent morning in a Starbucks Merrillville.

The 2010 Valparaiso University grad said during his university career at Caterpillar Inc.was canceled in a corporate cost-cutting move, buddy Cameron Banga came to him with the "crazy idea" to develop an iPhone application.

Phelps could ask, "What the hell, why not?" At least he beat the return to work in the restaurant where he had sweated all the money for college.
