In other words, the potential impact of Monday's announcement regarding the sale of Bucyrus International Caterpillar are not as bad as it could be.

The acquisition of Caterpillar Inc. Bucyrus International Inc. is not likely to cause immediate loss of jobs in the Milwaukee area.

Bucyrus currently has about 1,600 employees in the Milwaukee area, including about 880 hourly production workers, said Sullivan. The sale of Caterpillar does not alter plans for Bucyrus add as many as 515 jobs, split evenly between production and administrative staff in the Milwaukee area in the immediate future, "said Sullivan, who is leaving the company after the transaction ends.
