The economy of the economy should not grow too quickly or the risk of a sharp correction. Just this year, China has resisted an epic battle with inflation, drought and floods, poor global macroeconomic conditions, massive accounting / corruption scandals and a tragic accident on one of the achievements it tent of his country's high-speed rail system.
We discussed the huge backlog of China's high-speed rail system before (Read: Railway Revolution Builds Consumer Culture in China).Last week, members of our investment team and board have been doing research in China and you can see from the picture that we were lucky enough to see what travel at the speed of China feels like first hand. Our train on average 185 miles per hour during the 923-mile trip from Shanghai to Beijing. I traveled around the world and have seen many things during my travels, but viewing explosive growth of China as it flies in you something I will never forget.
Like most anthologies, Ax Vol. 1 is a mixed bag in terms of quality and gender. Some stories are slices of life, while others plunge into the most fantastic realms. If I had to choose one story that characterize what I expected of Ax, it would probably Yoshihiro Tatsumi's "Love's Bride," a man whose relationship deteriorates, while simultaneously learning the rituals at court monkeys.Like many stories Tatsumi is a play with characters and shifted a little deviant, and Tatsumi not afraid to represent moments like his protagonist (seen from behind) masturbating to a picture of his girlfriend. "Love's Bride" does not offer easy solutions to problems, and everyone is somewhat flawed in their own way. It's a fascinating little snapshot, and one that ends in a place that allows readers to draw their own conclusions as to what exactly will happen.
