We are approaching prime time for fall festivals, but how many kids leave a pet caterpillar, a bottle of paint or produce their own peanut butter? </ P> Fourth
Kansas City Community Gardens "Family Fall Festival on Saturday will be held in and around the Beanstalk Children's Garden, a third company which may include educational acres varieties 350-400 of crops: vegetables and standard fruit, herbs, seeds and grains. There is a garden of curiosity, too (the kids love the "sensitive plant", who sleeps when touched), and a water garden.</ P>
Everyone - children, parents, grandparents - are invited to the free festival, 10:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the headquarters of the Community Gardens of Kensington in 6917, av. in Swope Park. </ P>
Highlights: </ p> • hand grinding peanut butter. </ Strong> All you need is dry roasted, lightly salted peanuts and a little salad oil for lubrication. Crackers will be standing. "It's an interesting texture," says Mary Roduner, coordinator of children's gardening. "It's like peanut butter to the former. It tastes so different from what you buy at the store. "</ P> • treasure hunts Garden </ strong>, including the possibility of tasting. </ P> & # x95; table insects </ strong> with microscopes that children can use to look closely at the insects and plants - even a caterpillar animal (if the staff can find some). It will be the garden, crafts such as indigo-dyed T-shirts, and nest gourd. Proceeds help support the children's garden."In a hot year like this, the water bill alone is horrible," said Roduner. </ P> About 3000 children a year visit the garden Beanstalk, usually on trips. Many of them come back with their parents in tow, pleading for their own backyard gardens. </ P>
Regular admission is $ 2 per person ages 3 and up. The garden is open for walk-ins Monday through Saturday to Oct. 21. </ P> "Many children have never seen a potato out of the ground," said Roduner. "They think the carrots out of a plastic bag to the grocery store.</ P> "We have heard the comments of the most amazing things young people to taste fresh. They had no idea things tasted so good.
When I was four years
I lost my pet caterpillar,
her name was Kitty.
I lost my favorite jeans
those that correspond to just
and my belt.
Last month, I succeeded
losing my keys
and my cell phone
all in one night.
But none of that matters
when I look at what I lost
along the path
I lost my car
to sewer
demolished in the garbage collection
Dirty drains
she came out of a manhole
now she is in my room
not all the same
hair darkened by the lack of sun
eyes reddened by tears deductions
face smashed into a grin never change
crumpled body panel, tumbling over itself
mind wandering
Search
for what has been lost
I never found
my track, my jeans
my keys or my phone
and I've never found.
They are camouflaged well. If you are looking to attract more caterpillars at your home try planting a butterfly garden along with some host plants. Many of us have had a caterpillar as a pet. It's a fascinating metamorphosis to observe.
