Newest Bucknellians volunteer in community for inaugural 'Day of Service'

Lewisburg, Pa. - Freshman Michelle Jean and two of his classmates spent their first room Saturday at Bucknell University back to the community, they just joined.

The group cut badges in the shape of caterpillar and other jobs created to decorate the Donald L. Heiter Community Center in Lewisburg.

"It's not terrible work hard," said John. "But you take a little time and know it will be appreciated."

Over 300 members of the class of 2015 attended the first day of inauguration of service, an event to introduce the newest Bucknellians volunteer opportunities near the campus and get them engaged in education from the beginning, said Janice Butler, director of the Office of Civic Engagement. Other students cut the material pillowcases and T-shirts to dress a girl Around the World, an organization that dresses for girls in developing countries, a mural at the YMCA in Sunbury, helped Heritage Days in New Berlin, and led children's activities at Meadow View housing project in Lewisburg.

Each of these transport codes have their scope, advantages and disadvantages. Here in our research group we work with APTG FLUKA, Geant4 and SHIELD-HIT. In fact, we are actively developing the code SHIELD-HIT (visit our developer SHIELD-HIT). I recently had a discussion with a colleague (and non-programmer) where I wanted to clarify why we put so much effort in the shield-HIT, now that basically all the functions are more or less available in the FLUKA and Geant4 can be constructed. I found it difficult to explain why. A car would FLUKA an ordinary car that does the job it's supposed to do.Imagine VW Passat or another. If you enter such a car for the first time, it takes less than 10 seconds to orient yourself, as things are as expected: clutch, throttle, brakes etc.. If you forget to fasten your seatbelt, you will get an error message that tells you exactly what is wrong.
