City Council could grant extension for Mariott project

Developer Gary Matthews could be granted a short extension of the Peoria City Council on Tuesday, so he can get all the requirements of his contract with the city redevelopment completed in order to build a $ 102 million Marriott Downtown Hotel.

The board must vote on the cancellation of his contract with Matthews redevelopment. If approved, the movement ends essentially the Marriott hotel deal approved by the Council in May 2010, which spent about $ 37 million of government bonds to help finance the project.

Monday, some Council members said they had contacted received emails and letters from supporters of the Marriott project asking the city to continue its support for her and vote against the suggestion of City Manager Patrick Urich that agreement redevelopment be canceled.
