NEW YORK (JTA) - A decision by a group within the Presbyterian Church USA to reintroduce a resolution calling for divestment from companies doing business with Israel is the reopening of a long-standing controversy on the positions of the Church of Israel.

Committee of the church on the liability of intermediaries Investment Mission issued a report stating that on September 9th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church dispose of Motorola, Hewlett-Packard and Caterpillar.

"The General Assembly asked us to do our utmost to bring about change through dialogue," said committee chair Rev. Brian Ellison, a pastor from Kansas City, Missouri, in a statement. "Today, Unfortunately we are reports that these efforts have not produced any substantive change in corporate policies or practices, and there is little reason to hope they will in the future.According to previous directives of the Assembly and the process of the Church of common commitment, we have little choice but to recommend divestment.
