I usually get a little skeptical when I hear the words "government regulations."
There is often an agenda under the surface or an unintended consequence, even if well intentioned. Some would say that our Constitution has been developed specifically to guard against "good intentions".
What if many of our self-regulatory efficiency have been rejected? Is the market demand more effectively than governments? Is it possible that manufacturers build only government regulations and performance regs "would be far exceeded in a free market?
I've heard of engines that churn out viable 100 mpg or more. Although not a conspiracy theorist, I wonder if there are endless conspiracies swirling around energy issues. It is probably out of my hands, if there is, so we have to do the best we can with what we have.
I changed the engine oil and oil filter. Draining the old oil was facilitated by a very efficient sump pump (top left in photo). I also replaced the fuel filter and bled the fuel lines. Finally, I cleaned the filter relatively coarse mesh on the engine intake and throttle linkages lubricated and box. In common with many narrow boats, there is no paper air filter mounted, as the engine compartment is an environment relatively free of dust.
