Portable generators have been a hot spot in recent days as residents prepared area for Hurricane Irene.
These gasoline generators can provide electricity for domestic needs in the wake of an extended power outage, but they have their dangers if misused. Follow these tips from Connecticut Light and Power and the Consumer Product Safety Commission to ensure the safe use of your generator.

They must be placed outside and should be kept away from doors and vents. The generators can rapidly produce high levels of carbon monoxide poison gas if it is not used in a ventilated area.
Apart from differing views on what the roof must be sloped to cope with rainfall during the wet season, which is close to us, the process was relatively drama free. The circuit is about ten times larger than expected, which means that we lose more storage space than we thought, but I'm not sure how effective it is going to be for storage since the blocks in the walls and wrought iron gates, we need to ensure adequate ventilation for the generator. We will have the sloping roof of the house, the back wall where you can see in the picture above. The right door leads out of the court, which previously contained a clothesline of three lines, but was swallowed, and half of it, the generator shed. Our laundry is on the other side of the door / gate on the right of the photo above.
