    9/11: Reader responses

I started teaching a class technical training at Trane Co. ... Then, I became much more pro-active, and every time I flew on an airplane, I looked at everyone. A cutter will not stop me to defend anyone on the plan. I became more aggressive and observer. I have no problem with the inspections we now proceed to the airport, and remember that we are only a heartbeat away from taking a position and act when necessary. I am retired now, but they stole nearly 1 million air miles in my professional career. Have I changed? The answer is yes.I'm not afraid to act after seeing the rest being moved lower after a tower collapse while I was teaching in New York.

The 9 / 11, my wife and I worked at the Washington Navy yard, on the Potomac River from the Pentagon. We knew that two planes had hit the World Trade Center and then heard the explosion of Flight 77 as it crashed into the Pentagon. A few minutes later the region was shaken by sonic booms that F-16 to Andrews Air Force Base scrambled to intercept Flight 93.Rumors were rampant, and the sonic booms have been designed to be detonated car bombs on Pennsylvania Avenue. We were locked in the Navy Yard until 14:00 when we were allowed to leave. We took the metro yellow line at the station at the Pentagon City Mall and could smell the smoke from the fires of the building where we have traveled off the Pentagon. Our son watched Flight 77 to fly over our house in Arlington, in the Sheraton National, and observed the plume of smoke after the plane hit the Pentagon.

... To my surprise, the key to sudden shock - sort of - decided he could develop enough torque to loosen the bolts that were tightened even down. I just needed to loosen by hand, which is (obviously) the one that was above the exhaust pipe, which makes it all but inaccessible ... and of course he was the one I need for the cheater bar. Argh etc. brushed 'em all with a glob of Health anti-seize, ran' em back, tried to use my micrometer torque wrench to tighten ... and discovered that my torque wrench is crap. This is the same wrench that broke a rod bolt for me when I was rebuilding the engine Escort.same symptoms: do not click when it is supposed to click. Think it is time for a new one. Then I brought out a metal wheel, the "rust converter", and can Rustoleum satin black. I knocked on the scale, struck the rust with rust converter (which smells like a locker room, but it works) and finally ended up typing on a layer of Rustoleum.
