Mo-99 decays into technetium-99m, an isotope used in about 85 percent of all nuclear medicine procedures, including evaluation of the heart, kidneys, lungs, liver, spleen, bones and blood circulation. To address the shortage of this isotope critical GEH and the United States National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Global initiative to reduce threats are a source of internal development of 99Mo, which is not based on the use of HEU enriched uranium (HEU) - a key advance non-proliferation initiative to the United States.
