Fire claims motor home in Stanfield

Idaho man faced tragedy and found the hospitality in Stanfield when fire destroyed his motor home Thursday afternoon.

Rick Smith of Emmett, Idaho, received minor injuries when their camper caught fire near the intersection of Avenue Southeast and South Furnish Dunne Street at about 12:30

Smith said the fire started from a line of old generator that caught fire.

"I was driving down the street and someone stopped me and said I was on fire," he said. "I went out and tried to pinch the line. I then caught fire."

Smith suffered burns to his right arm and abdomen, but managed to get his two dogs out of the vehicle before the fire as it claims.

The tower of smoke was visible from Hermiston, and the fire raised the interest of area residents.
